2. Click on Sign up for a new Google Account in the upper right hand corner.

3. Enter your first and last name, then a username to be used as your Gmail account.

4. You can use letters, numbers, and periods.

5. If the username you type in is already taken, you will be asked to Try another? Try adding a period or a middle name.

6. Create a password a minimum of 8 characters in length. Try and use those extra characters, too, like %, $, &, etc. Your password strength should be “Strong.”

7. Fill in your Birthday. I didn’t receive a present from Google this year so I don’t know why Google wants this.

8. They are just asking…

9. But you don’t have to tell…

10. Enter your Mobile phone number to keep your account secure.

11. Enter another email address for the same reason.

12. Enter proof that you are no robot.

13. If you are in the United Sates, do nothing to this box.

14. You may uncheck the first box if you like, but you will have to check the second box.

15. Click on Next step.

16. You can add a Profile Photo if you like, but you don’t need to. Click on Next step.

17. You’re all set! Click Get started to use your account!

2. Create a name for your Gmail account. Check availability. If your name is taken (which I’m sure is not the case, you are unique, after all), several suggestions are made.

3. Create a password. A minimum of 8 characters in length. Try and use those extra characters, too, like %, $, &, etc. Your password strength should be “strong.”

4. Pick a security question and answer. Do not use spaces or punctuation. Save your answer as you would a password, not because someone can steal it, but because the answer has to be entered the same way each time. For instance, if your pet’s name is “St. Bernard.” you will need to enter it as StBernard and enter it that way whenever you are asked for it. Have a recovery email address for the “Recovery email” box.

Continue reading »]]> Google may already have a Place for you. You will need to claim the Place in order to use it.
There are many ways to find your Google Place page, but this way is easy.

1. Go to Google. Click on “Maps.”

2. Type in your industry and location. Click on the magnifying glass.

3. You will be taken to a Google Map. Listings with “pin balloons” are on the left. Map is on right.

4. Find your business balloon and click on the name (if you are there). This is the number one spot. I hope this is you.

5. This is the Google Places page. If the business has not claimed its Google Place, “Business owner?” appears in the upper right corner. This owner has not.

7. Click on “Business owner?” to claim your Google Place.

Continue reading »]]> I’ve been with 1&1 for many years, and as with most hosting services, it’s a dysfunctional relationship. I’ve tried out other services, but since I know 1&1 so well, I can do pretty much anything. Today, however, I did battle with GoDaddy and loaded the WordPress engine for a client on their GoDaddy account. Here’s what I did.
First I had to create a directory.

Logging into GoDaddy

Go to My Products

Click on Web Hosting

Launch Account

GoDaddy opens to the Hosting Control Center

Click on Domains

Select Domain

Click on Pencil under Actions

Create a folder (directory) name, click OK
